Quiz Gust Guide | How to Create and Run Live Quizzes in Aloftly

Quiz Gust

Quiz Gust allows you to create and run real-time scored quizzes or enable Self-Paced Mode to share the quiz via link. During live mode, you control the session, push questions to participants, and Aloftly automatically scores responses and displays results. In self-paced mode, you control whether participants see immediate results or have them revealed during a scheduled live session.

Participants join from their own device and answer questions as they advance through the quiz.

Quiz Gust supports both live, host-controlled sessions and self-paced sessions.

How Quiz Gust Works

Quiz Gust sessions include three primary components.

Host Control Panel
You create the quiz, open and close questions, and control the flow of the session.

Participant View
Participants join using a 6-digit room code and submit answers in real time.

Presentation View
Displays questions, answer options, leaderboards, and results for group viewing.

Scores are calculated automatically based on correct answers and point values.

Creating a Quiz Gust Session

To create a Quiz Gust session:

From your Dashboard, select Quiz Gust
Enter a title for your session
Add questions manually, load a template, or generate questions using AI
Configure question settings
Click Go Live to begin a live session, or enable Self-Paced Mode to share the quiz via link

Participants can join using the room code or shared link, depending on the session mode.

Question Types

Quiz Gust supports four question types.

Multiple Choice
Participants select from up to 6 answer options. One or more answers can be marked as correct. This question type is scored.

This or That
Participants select between two options, such as True or False or Agree or Disagree. This question type is scored.

Open Text / Brainstorm
Participants submit free-form text responses. Responses can be displayed as brainstorm boards or word clouds. This question type is not scored.

Rating Scale
Participants respond using a numeric scale with customizable visual styles, including numbers, energy bars, faces, stars, or a slider. This question type is not scored.

Using Templates

Quiz Gust includes pre-built templates with ready-made question sets.

To use a template:

Open the Quiz Editor
Select a template from the template library
Modify questions as needed
Launch the session

Templates can be fully customized before use.

Question Settings

Each question includes configurable settings.

Response Time
Defines how long participants have to respond. Range is 5 to 300 seconds. Default is 30 seconds.

Points
Defines the number of points the question is worth. Range is 0 to 10,000 points. The default is 100 points.

Display Mode
Controls how responses are displayed, including standard reveal, brainstorm board, word cloud, or hidden.

Response Limit
Controls whether participants can submit one response, multiple responses, or unlimited responses.

Allow Multiple Selections
Allows participants to select more than one answer when applicable.

Show Results Live
Displays responses in real time as participants submit answers.

Generating Quiz Content with AI

Quiz Gust includes AI-powered quiz generation to help you quickly create complete quizzes.

To generate quiz content using AI:

Open the Quiz Editor
Click the AI Generate button
Enter a prompt describing the quiz you want to create
Review and edit the generated questions before going live

AI generation creates:

Questions
Answer options
Correct answers
Point values
Response time settings

You can manually edit all generated content.

Example prompt where AI creates the full quiz:

"Create a quiz on the basics of customer service. Each question is worth 100 points, and participants have 45 seconds to respond to each question."

Example prompt where you provide the content:

"Create a quiz using the following topics: greeting customers, handling complaints, and closing interactions. Include four answer options per question, identify the correct answer, assign 500 points per question, and allow 30 seconds for each response."

Important
AI-generated content may contain errors. Always review and validate questions, answer options, and correct answers before running a session.

Running a Live Quiz

When a quiz is live, you control the experience using the host control panel.

Available controls include:

Open Question
Pushes the current question to participants and starts the response timer.

Stop Voting
Stops accepting responses manually or when the timer expires.

Reveal Results
Displays the correct answer and score distribution.

Extend Timer
Adds additional time for participants to respond.

Next Question
Advances to the next question.

Show Leaderboard
Shows or hides rankings on the presentation view.

Quick Question
Allows you to create and insert a new question during a live quiz. This feature is available in Quiz Gust and is not a separate session type.

Instant Raffle
Randomly selects a winner from current participants. This feature can be used at any time during a live quiz. (Click the gift icon, located in the upper left of the host control panel.)

Remove Player
Removes a participant from the session.

End Session
Finalizes the quiz and saves results.

Some features may require a paid plan.

Leaderboards and Scoring

Quiz Gust automatically calculates scores based on correct answers and point values.

The following question types are scored:

Open Text / Brainstorm
Rating Scale

Leaderboard rankings are based on cumulative score.

Leaderboard visibility can be controlled during the session.

Team Mode

Team Mode allows participants to compete in groups instead of individually.

When enabled, each participant joins a team.

Team score is calculated as the average of all individual team member scores.

To enable Team Mode:

Open the Quiz Editor
Enable Team Mode in session settings
Create teams with custom names and colors
Team can be assigned automatically, by player self-select, or by the host.

Leaderboards can display both team rankings and individual rankings.

Reports include team information when Team Mode is enabled.

Self-Paced Mode

Self-Paced Mode allows participants to complete a quiz independently without a live host controlling the session.

This mode is useful for training, assessments, and asynchronous participation.

To enable Self-Paced Mode:

Open the Quiz Editor
Enable Self-Paced Mode in session settings
Share the generated link with participants

Participants can:

Start the quiz at any time
Complete questions at their own pace
Leave and return later without losing progress

The host can set a start date/time for the quiz to open and a close date/time.

Results are automatically saved and available in your Dashboard.

What Participants Experience

Participants join by going to:

Participants can also join by scanning the QR code automatically generated for each session.

Participants can:

Enter a nickname
Answer questions when opened by the host or presented automatically in self-paced mode
View feedback after answer reveal
See leaderboard rankings
View final results when the quiz ends

Participants interact in real time during live sessions.

Managing and Reviewing Results

When the quiz ends:

Click End Session to finalize the session.

Results are automatically saved.

You can review responses and export reports from your Dashboard.
